Top PSL clubs in the battle for maximum points


WHILE the focus will be at the FNB Stadium where Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates take each other for the supremacy of Soweto, four more Absa Premiership clubs will also be battling it out for the maximum points.

The match which is expected to produce fire-works will be that one of the revamped Moroka Swallows who welcomes AmaZulu in Soweto.

Kick-Off at the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium is 8.15pm, and the Swallows coach Gordon Igesund has promised to continue with their winning ways so as to enhance their chances to challenge the league title.

“My wish is to win seven matches out of the remaining 11 so as to stay in the title race. I know it is not going to be easy because all the clubs in our remaining matches also have their ideas,” said Igesund who has brought the beautiful Birds’ former glory days since taking over the coaching reigns sometimes last season.

Igesund who is the only coach to have won the league title four times with different clubs has however warned his players not to underestimate AmaZulu who won their last match against league contenders SuperSport United recently. For the record, swallows are lying 4th on the log with 33 points, just four points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

AmaZulu assistant coach, Fanie Madida said they respect Swallows as a good side which has been doing well lately: “But it will be suicidal for them to think that we will be an easy meat.”

Added Madida: “Moroka Swallows can be beaten in their own back-yard and that is what we are going to do come Saturday evening.”

In another match which is expected to be a centre of attraction, Ajax Cape Town welcomes Mamelodi Sundowns at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town at 6pm.

The Urban Warriors will be looking forward for victory in order to improve their position on the log (6th with 31 points) while the Brazilians want nothing else other than a win to cement their summit on the log (37 points).

In Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium, SuperSport United will be looking forward to redeem their dented image when they host bottom of the log side, Jomo Cosmos (Kick-off 8.15pm)

Matsatsantsa A Pitori are currently lying on the fifth position with 32 points and victory will see them revive their chances of challenging the league title while as for Ezenkosi will also desperate for the maximum points so that they can move away from the danger zone (16th with 12 points)

The other league matches scheduled for tomorrow: Golden Arrows v Maritzburg United (Princess Magogo, 6pm), BidVest Wits v Free State Stars (BidVest, 3.30pm)

Sunday: Black Leopards v Platinum Stars (Giyani) and Bloemfontein Celtic v Santos (Botshabelo). Kick-Off for these two matches is 3.30pm.
