United, AmaZulu hoping for Nedbank final. Read the full story to win double tickets for this match

SUPERSPORT United and AmaZulu will do battle for a place in the 2012 Nedbank Cup final when they meet at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having done away with Batau FC, United FC and Jomo Cosmos, one could argue that SuperSport have had an easy path to the semifinals. However, all of their matches thus far have been hard-fought affairs and this contest promises to be just as tough.

AmaZulu have taken down Ajax Cape Town, Witbank Spurs and Santos en-route to this stage of the competition and will be itching to get into another Nedbank Cup final and set the record straight, having reached one in 2010 only to be beaten 3-0 by Bidvest Wits.

Head-to-head stats are very much in favour of SuperSport for this clash, both in the overall record and when it comes to cup competitions. The teams have met 39 times across all competitions since 1990, with Matsatsantsa picking up 19 wins compared to 10 for Usuthu.

In cup competitions, AmaZulu have not managed to defeat SuperSport outright from five matches (two United wins, three draws), though they have twice eliminated the Pretoria side on penalties.

Those shootout victories for Usuthu came in the teams’ two most recent cup matches: quarterfinal clashes in the 2009/10 MTN8 and Telkom Knockout. Both matches ended 2-2 after extra time.

United have an excellent home record against AmaZulu, suffering just one loss in 20 matches across all competitions. However, that one home defeat was recorded earlier this year when an Ayanda Dlamini goal handed the Durban side a 1-0 victory in a league clash on February 25.

That signalled the start of a six-game scoreless streak in the league for Gavin Hunt’s side. The fiery coach will be hoping there is no repeat of that this time around.

Kick-off is at 15h00.-www.psl.co.za
