SA Development team ready to compete

The South African Development Team continues to ready itself for competition in Sudan where there will be playing in the 2nd Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN). The South African landed on Sunday and continued where they left off with training during their camp in South Africa.

There are three days left before South Africa takes to the field against Ghana in their first match of the tournament in what should be their toughest challenge to date. The match is on Saturday, February 5 in Hilal.

Coach Simon Ngomane says he is happy with the steady progress that the team is making since the beginning of their tough camp both in South Africa and now currently in Sudan.

“The travel was a bit too long, so we could not get into training on our arrival. But the boys have recuperated and I must say looking at them they haven’t lost their sharpness, and we haven’t lost any time either. With their physical condition in top condition, we are now concentrating on tactical work. And I am also happy that they are adapting well to the conditions here. The remaining training sessions before our first match will give us a clear indication in terms of their competitiveness. The team is looking good and although the players have a few knocks we are injury free, which is good news,” said Ngomane.

The tournament is scheduled to kickoff on Friday, February 4 where 16 countries will compete until a winner emerges after the finals on February 25 in Merreikh.

The countries taking part are: Algeria, Tunisia, Mali, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, Cameroon, Gabon, DR Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe and hosts Sudan. South Africa is in the same Group with Ghana, Niger and Zimbabwe.
