Free State Stars needed extra time to book themselves a place in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup, claiming a hard fought 1-0 victory over struggling SuperSport United in a last 16 clash played at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.
Boitumelo Sekgobela scored a 93rd minute goal to hand Ea Lla Koto the victory. With both teams playing without their head coaches on their benches (because of suspensions) the two assistant coaches, Themba Sithole and Thomas Madigage were holding the fort, and as expected the opening few minutes of the match were dedicated to both sides sizing each other up.
In Durban, goals from Ayanda Dlamini (15th minute) and Lehlohonolo Majoro (79) handed AmaZulu a 2-0 win over Carara Kicks at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday night to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the 77th minute the home were a man short after defender Sibusiso Hadebe was red-carded. But that did not bother AmaZulu who scored the clincher two minutes via Majoro.
