FIVE PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN THREE SEPARATE ACCIDENTS IN LIMPOPO

THE MEC for Transport and Community Safety Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has expressed concern over the continuing road crashes in Limpopo. Five people have been killed in three separate crashes since the start of thisweeken. The latest accident was reported on the N1 North outside Louistrichardt in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is alleged that a bus pulling a trailer travelling from Gauteng to the Beitbridge Border Post overturned when the driver lost control of the vehicle. One person was confirmed dead, the driver sustained serious injuries and fourteen passengers escaped with minor injuries. Fatigue is suspected to be the cause of the accident.

In another accident reported on the R71 road near Selati Lodge in Mopani, a driver of a Mercedes Benz sedan and a passenger were reported dead when the car lost control and overturned. Reckless driving is cited as a possible cause of the accident.

In the Vhembe District, two people were killed in a head-on collision involving a bakkie Van and a minibus on the Tshitavha road. One person was critically injured and nine others sustained serious injuries. Preliminary investigations have revealed that speeding and reckless driving could be the possible cause of the accident.

Transport and Community safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the affected families, and urged motorists to always follow traffic rules.
