LIMPOPO PROVINCE, BELA-BELA: Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has been hard at work to promote Limpopo Golf Tourism as well as to raise awareness on the envisaged Golf Passport for all golf courses in the Waterberg District. The activation was conducted at Zebula Golf Estate and the less known Babirwa Golf and Bush Lodge on the 5th and 6th November 2021 respectively. The Agency partnered with Dipekwa Golf Club for purposes of promoting Limpopo Golf and Safari Route and sports tourism in the Waterberg. LTA saw this as an opportunity for creating more awareness about the Golf and Safari Route under Sport and Wildlife Cluster.
The activation took place against the backdrop of a successful launch of the 2021 Summer Campaign that took place over the past two weeks in Phalaborwa. LTA undertook to take the campaign to all the other four districts of the province through activations to promote Limpopo as a suitable and leading tourism destination in the country.
The partnership of LTA and Babirwa Golf and Bush Lodge will be beneficial for both parties with Babirwa Golf and Bush Lodge being used as a platform to promote Limpopo Golf Tourism in the province. The establishment will in the process gain popularity with more rounds of golf being played at this less known golf course.
Mr. Tebogo Mogashoa, who is the owner of this exquisite five-star establishment in the Waterberg District, was very excited and thanked LTA that the establishment got an opportunity to host a round of golf as that would help promote the establishment and the 18-hole golf course, which was less known before the two-legged Golf Tourism activation.
The establishment is the second black-owned after Euphoria in the same District, Waterberg. “It is exciting to be a part of this partnership as this will help promote the golf course and the establishment. I hope this will bring in numbers of people to this facility for leisure tourism including golf”. I wish to leave this to LTA to do its work by helping us market this product”, said Mogashoa.
Limpopo Golf and Safari Route, which was since launched for the first time in 2014 will now include the Golf Passport which will be valid for two years from date of purchase, giving golfers the opportunity to play four rounds of golf at any of the participating golf resorts over the two-year period. The vision for Limpopo is to grow the sport to attract the highest level of PGA and professionals from South Africa and abroad with the goal of staging an event the size of the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
The Chairperson of the LTA Board, Mr. Andrew Dipela, at the price giving ceremony at Babirwa Golf and Bush Lodge said, “We as LTA are happy that we have partnership with Babirwa Golf and Bush Lodge. For this partnership to grow, it will require golf clubs like Dipekwa to join us in partnership to promote golf tourism in Limpopo. This partnership has arisen because we have a programme of promoting the Limpopo Golf and Safari Route in Limpopo and Waterberg alone has affiliated eight golf course that are part of this strategy. The Waterberg District boast several unique golf courses that offer golf tourism experience compared to none.
