Shield Ignites the Heat Wave: A Nation Unites for Banyana Banyana at WAFCON 2025

By Zenzile Dlamini

As Banyana Banyana embarks on their journey to WAFCON 2025 in Morocco to defend their title, they do so buoyed by the aspirations, pride, rhythm, and fervor of an entire nation. This year, Shield is committed to ensuring that Mzansi expresses its support with exuberance, pride, and dynamism.

Introducing the Shield Heat Wave: an unprecedented, fan-driven initiative that transforms national backing into a vibrant, cohesive display of pride. Conceived by Shield, the official movement sponsor of Banyana Banyana, the Heat Wave embodies the spirit of supporters across the country—those who dance, chant, and generate fervor for their team in every crucial moment.

“This is our moment to unite as one,” proclaims Aneska Narandas, Brand Manager for Shield. “Shield has always epitomized confidence through movement, and this year, that confidence is a shared experience for every South African. The Heat Wave is our collective expression of solidarity for Banyana Banyana. It embodies energy, passion, and Shield will be present to ensure every fan remains fresh and fearless.”

From stadiums to living rooms to fan parks, Mzansi is awakening.

The Shield Heat Wave beckons fans everywhere to rally for Banyana: to dance, celebrate, and manifest their support with the same vigor and intensity that the players exhibit on the pitch. As Banyana ignites the field with their fervor, fans reciprocate with enthusiasm in the stands—and Shield provides the freshness to sustain them throughout.

To amplify the movement, Shield unveiled a monumental writable installation in Pretoria, offering fans the opportunity to inscribe profound messages of belief and encouragement for the national team. From heartfelt notes penned by schoolchildren to bold declarations from lifelong supporters, this live mural encapsulated the collective voice of a nation and was ceremoniously presented to Banyana Banyana in anticipation of the tournament.

With the opening match against Ghana which Banyana won 2-0 on July 7, the Shield Heat Wave is gaining momentum across South Africa, and the fervor is only intensifying.
