Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will this afternoon table another budget (3.0) before parliament. It will be the third time that Minister Godongwana tables the budget speech after he postponed the initial presentation in February.
The second tabled presentation was sparked by controversy which was followed by political and public scrutiny after the Finance Minister proposed a 0,5% VAT increase.
He and his department later scrapped plans to increase VAT amid public outcry and a court case by the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
With a VAT increase off the table, the Minister of Finance is expected to present alternatives to make up for the revenue shortfall, account for high expenditure and stabilise debt.
