IQRAAM RAYNERS’ LATE STRIKE MAINTAINS CARDOSO’S 100% RECORD

By ZENZILE DLAMINI

THE newly appointed Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso got an early Christmas present after his side edged AmaZulu FC 1-0 in a hard-fought Betway Premiership encounter at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Brazilians maintained the winning streak under Cardoso’s guidance, making it consecutive three victories wins since the Portuguese tactician took charge of the reigning league champions.

As expected, the Chloorkop boys dominated the proceedings from the word go, but only to be let down by lack of precision in the final third saw them miss a lot of goal scoring opportunities.

Cardoso’s men suffered a big blow in the second half after captain Ronwen Williams was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the penalty box in the 56th minute.

Despite being a man down, the Brazilians kept charging at Usuthu up until Iqraam Rayners found the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of the visiting side as they remain on top of the Betway Premiership with 27 points after 10 games played.
