MTN8 2024 Season Kick-Off: R10 Million Prize for The Winning Team

MTN South Africa and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) are excited to unveil the 2024 MTN8 season, ushering in a new season of competitive local football. This year’s tournament is special as MTN celebrates 16 years of partnership with the PSL.

The MTN8, renowned for showcasing the top 8 teams from the previous season, promises a thrilling campaign. Reigning champions Orlando Pirates will defend their title, having been the first to lift the new MTN8 trophy last season. Tshwane giants, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns are eager to reclaim their glory. Cape Town’s Stellenbosch and Cape Town City will bring fierce rivalry, while Limpopo’s Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City make a bold statement. TS Galaxy also joins the fray, ready to impress.

The new football season arrives with thrilling news for teams: MTN is boosting the prize money for the MTN8 winning team from R8 million to R10 million. This significant increase highlights MTN’s dedication to investing in the sport, providing teams with more resources to excel, and ensuring the MTN8 remains a prestigious event in South African football. “This increase underscores our commitment to investing in the sport, giving teams more resources to shine, and ensuring the tournament remains a pinnacle of football prestige in South Africa,” said Kholofelo Magagane, Acting GM of Brand and Marketing at MTN SA.

MTN’s collaboration with the PSL has been instrumental in the sport’s growth, delivering unforgettable moments for fans and players. Magagane emphasised, “Our enduring partnership reflects our commitment to elevating football standards in South Africa and delivering heart-pounding experiences for fans.” This partnership has not only fostered the sport’s development but has also brought the football community closer together, creating a vibrant and passionate fanbase.

From its early days, MTN has played a pivotal role in nurturing South African football. By sponsoring several PSL teams, MTN has significantly contributed to their development, enabling them to compete more effectively in the league. This confirms MTN’s unwavering commitment to the progress and success of football in the country.

The 2024 MTN8 season also brings thrilling opportunities for fans to score big! By dialing 144*8# and recharging with R10 or more, MTN customers could win a share of R8 million in prizes. One lucky fan will take home a whopping R1 million cash prize! Finalists will be drawn weekly and announced across various media platforms. “We encourage fans to recharge regularly to boost their chances of becoming the ultimate fan because the more they recharge, the better their chances of winning,” Magagane advises.

To inject new energy into this year’s campaign and ensure MTN8 fans remain engaged, MTN is bringing the “Ntho Tse Monate” series, featuring the beloved Noko Mashaba. The series will commemorate MTN’s 30 years of progress while energising fans with vibrant video content and exhilarating activations. Supporters can expect a lively mix of football banter and comedic moments to keep them entertained and engaged throughout the season.

In addition, fans can dive into other engaging football content on MTN’s digital platforms, including Izinja ze Game and the MTN8 Ayoba channel. MTN FC will also feature captivating football-related content, igniting rivalries and passions.

MTN remains committed to giving back through the MTN8 tournament. To mark the 30-year milestone, MTN will contribute R30,000 per goal scored in the MTN8 tournament to the Goals for Charity initiative. Every goal scored will benefit various charitable organisations. Additionally, MTN8 Legends will contribute a combined R320,000 to their chosen charities through the Last Legend Standing Competition.

Through the MTN8 Legacy Project, MTN will donate Dream Bags filled with football kits and equipment to schools, bringing the joy of football to young talent across communities.

Journalists, who are an integral part of the MTN8 tournament, will have the chance to participate in the Last Journalist Standing competition, ensuring active media engagement throughout the season.

This year, MTN has teamed up with eight football legends to elevate the MTN8 experience. Legends include:
