Nissan Magnite Kuro is bold, black and beautiful

By NAKAMPE LEKWADU

THE all-new Nissan Magnite Kuro has been launched in South Africa and boasts best-in-class and first-in-segment features.

Kuro is black in Japanese, and with its powerful performance and striking dark looks, it is a sight to behold.  The member of the ever-expanding Magnite family is available in two specifications in South Africa.

The two are elevated by darkened exterior and interior highlights with a noticeable absence of the splashes of chrome and colour that decorate their siblings.

Differentiating the Magnite Kuro from the rest of the range are a piano-black grille, unique gunmetal-black 16-inch wheels, red brake callipers, model-specific Kuro badging on the flanks, and a black resin skid plate combined with a black tailgate garnish at the rear.

Interior

Once inside, the treatment continues with a dark-themed dashboard, a black gear-shift boot, black finishes on the front and rear aircon vents, a piano-black steering wheel, a dark-grey front centre armrest, and black synthetic-leather upholstery with diamond stitching.

Based on the mid-range Acenta grade, the Magnite Kuro variants are equipped with a 7-inch multi-information driver’s display, an 8-inch central touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic airconditioning, cruise control, keyless entry and start, and LED daytime running lights.

Performance and safety

An around-view camera system is included, too, as are hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, ABS with hydraulic brake assist, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and two front airbags.

Propelling the Kuro models is a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol motor capable of generating 74kW and 160Nm.

If paired with the five-speed manual transmission the crossover registers a combined fuel usage of 5.3l/100km, accelerates from 0-100km/h in 11.7 seconds, and climbs to a maximum of 173km/h.

In CVT guise, it burns fuel at a rate of 6.0l/100km, reaches triple digits in 13.4 seconds, and tops out at 168km/h.

Pricing:

Magnite 1.0T Kuro SV MT Edition              R344,900

Magnite 1.0T Kuro SV CVT                            R351 800

Includuded is a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 3-year/30,000km service plan.
