RAMPANT BUCCANEERS THRASH GALLANTS 8-1

By STAFF REPORTER

ORLANDO Pirates made their intensions to close the gap on the log between themselves and Mamelodi Sundown in the Betway Premiership when they went on a goal-spree with an epic 8-1 victory over the disjointed Marumo Gallants at the Orlando Stadium.

The match at Orlando Stadium was almost ruined by some heavy down pouring, and was stopped temporarily shortly after Kenneth Nthatheni’s own goal in the early minutes.

Subsequently, the heavy showers was followed by a downpour of goals which saw Gallants suffer their biggest defeat in the club’s history.

The first half of the game adjourned in a stalemate following Gabadinho Mhango’s equaliser to level matters to 1-1.

In the second half, Washington Arubi’s net was haunted by the Buccaneers when they netted 7 goals.

A man of the match performance saw Tshegofatso Mabasa score a hattrick, with new signee Deano Van Rooyen getting his maiden goal for Pirates in the 59th minute of the game.

Thalente Mbatha secured a brace to worsen the situation for Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela’s side who were 7-1 down in the 82nd minute.

Boitumelo Radiopane 89th minute penalty conversion saw Orlando Pirates bury Marumo Gallants with an emphatic 8-1 scoreline.

Pirates remain second in the Betway Premiership with 24 points. However, the Soweto have a game in hand to their advantage against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who secured a 1-0 win against AmaZulu FC to remain on top of the log with 27 points.

The Buccaneers will conclude their 2024 fixtures against Magesi FC in Polokwane
