Sekhukhune bolster their squad with latest signing confirmed

By Hlayisani Magoro

With the busy AFCON schedule and the January transfer window open, it’s business as usual for Sekhukhune United who are known to reinforce their squad in every transfer window. This time Babina Noko have secured the services of an international midfielder.

The Limpopo outfit have signed Teboho Letsema from Lesotho Premier League side Linare FC, the 21-year-old is a current Lesotho international with one cap under his belt having made his international debut in September 2023 in a match against Ivory Coast thanks to coach Veselin Jelusic for giving him 45 minutes on the field.

Linare FC confirmed the player’s departure in an official statement prior to the club president confirming it to South African media.

“Linare and Sekhukhune United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Teboho Letsema. Teboho will play the last two games of the first round and then depart to join his new team,” the club statement read.

Refiloe Martin, Linare FC president to KickOff: “ I can confirm the player’s move to Sekhukhune United, I cannot discuss about his contract at Sekhukhune United as we only dealt with his transfer to his new team,” he said.

Letsema is believed to have caught the eye of Sekhukhune United during the international friendly match between Bafana Bafana and Lesotho in Pretoria earlier this month. The Likuena midfielder could be in to replace Elias Mokwana who’s reportedly on the radar of the big three in Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The highly rated midfielder is Babina Noko’s second signing after they also acquired the services of Namibian international striker Edmar Ronaldo Kamatuka, per Lorenz Kohler. Kamatuka was in Namibia’s preliminary AFCON 2023 squad but didn’t make the final cut.

Lehlohonolo Seema’s side are still competing in the CAF Confederations cup and are currently third placed with four points in group D. Domestically Seema’s men are 12th placed with 18 points on the log standings, just 5 points above the playoff spot. Sekhukhune will be looking to end a four-game winless run across all competitions when they travel to Tshwane to take on Supersport United in the Dstv Premiership, on February 13.
